Coming off an 18-16 season in 2022, the Ainsworth Girls Volleyball Team has five returning letter winners in Karli Kral, Kendyl Delimont, Breanna Fernau, Jocelyn Good and Cheyan Temple. Head Coach Jeri Graff said, “We have some talented hitters coming back this year.” “The Big question mark on the season is who will be stepping in to take over setting duties.

Robert Magill lit up the course with a five-under round of 32 during Men’s League Golf on Thursday, August 10th at the Ainsworth Municipal Golf Course. Doug Weiss, Kevin Martin and Logan Leach followed with a 1-under rounds of 35.

The team of Stephnie Kinzie, Julie Micheel and Kathy Worrell edged out the team of Ann Hoch, Jen Martin and Wendy Wilkins by a mere half point to win the 2023 Ainsworth Women’s Golf League. The two teams spent most of the season within a couple of points of each other while vying for the top spot during Women’s Golf League season at the Ainsworth Golf Course.

The Ainsworth High School Girls Golf Team opens its season on August 17th at the O’Neill Invitational. Head Coach Heather Lutter said she has seven girls out this year, five juniors and two freshman.

The Brown County Fair Division F - Floriculture will be adding two additional Special Premiums to honor long-time participant, Lydia Greder. In honor of Lydia Greder, a $25.00 premium will be paid for Best of Show and a $25.00 premium for Best Pollinator Friendly Flower Arrangement with no less than five (5) varieties in the arrangement.

The Al Hodge Memorial Horseshoe Tournament was held Sunday, July 30th in Ainsworth. The following results were provided (Name, City (All Nebraska Pitchers), Win/Loss and Ringer %: 1. Malinda Hodge, Ainsworth, 6-0, 35%; 2. Mike Thomsen, North Platte, 5-1, 27.92%; 3. Jim Sybrant, Bassett, 4-2, 29.17%; 4. Doug Whipple, Fordyce, 3-3, 15.83%; 5. Charles Beeson, Waverly, 2-4, 15.83%; 6. Rex Robison, Columbus, 1-5, 2.92%; and 7. Bonnie Whipple, Fordyce, 0-6, 1.25%.

The United States Marine Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced the Ainsworth Volleyball Team has earned the USMC/AVCA Academic Award For the sixth year in a row. USMC/AVCA reported that 1,343 collegiate and high school volleyball teams have earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award this season. This marks an all-time record number of programs honored for their academic achievements. The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission approved fee increases for its state park entry permits at its meeting August 4th in Valentine. The fee for the annual permit for Nebraska-licensed vehicles will increase from $30.00 to $35.00 and a temporary (daily) permit from $6.00 to $7.00 beginning Jan.

Two teams are vying for the top spot with just one week left in Women’s Golf League at the Ainsworth Golf Course. The first place team of Kathy Worrell, Stephanie Kinzie and Julie Micheel have a team score of 89 points after week 11 of Women’s League Golf on August 2nd.

Cam Palmer and Brett Konetzel shot even par rounds of 36 during Men’s League Golf on Thursday, August 3rd at the Ainsworth Municipal Golf Course. Logan Leach followed with a 1-over round of 37.
