Dormant Spraying Alfalfa Weeds

As our weather warms, alfalfa producers are reminded to eliminate weeds in their fields before plants break dormancy. Herbicides for controlling winter annual weeds such as pennycress, mustards, and shepherd's purse should be applied before alfalfa regrowth reaches 2 inches of height. If alfalfa shoots are green when sprayed, its growth may be set back a couple weeks.

Question: Will you explain staking my new trees? Not all trees require staking, in fact staking a tree that doesn’t need to be or leaving the stakes in place longer than one growing season can do more harm than good. A new tree needs support when it has an unusually small root system, the trunk bends excessively in the wind or it is planted in a very windy site.

NCDHD Reports Only Four New COVID-19 Cases in District

North Central District Health Department (NCDHD) has been made aware of four new COVID-19 cases in the district since last reporting period on March 4th, 2021: 2 - Antelope, 0 - Boyd, 0 - Brown, 1 - Cherry, 1 - Holt, 0 - Keya Paha, 0 - Knox, 0 - Pierce and 0 - Rock. NCDHD still encourages district residents to continue to wear your mask in public places or where social distancing is difficult as well as practice social distancing while out in public.
