New weed supervisor hired to replace DeWayne Bennett

The regular meeting of the Gregory County Board of Commissioners was held at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at the Gregory County Courthouse.

On the road again

Travel requests were approved for Highway Superintendent Brad Ellwanger to attend the 2021 Highway Superintendents Short Course in Deadwood, March 23-25, 2021 (mileage, rooms, meals), for Sheriff’s Administrative Assistant Megan Lindholm to attend the Sex Offender Registry Conference in Deadwood, April 19 and 20 (mileage, rooms, meals) and to attend the 24/7 Statewide Training in Oacoma, July 14 and 15 (room and meals), and for the county commissioners and officials to attend the Spring Workstop for Commissioners and New Officials Workshop in Pierre March 17 and 18 (room, meals mileage).

Nursing contract continued

The board chair was authorized to sign the contract for community health nursing services for 2021 at a cost of $5,449.

Jensen is new Weed Supervisor

The board agreed to hire John Jensen, Weed Department employee, as the new Weed Department Supervisor, effective February 16, 2021, at a wage of $18.86 per hour and a cell phone for business use.

Plats are 1-1 at meeting

A plat for Lot 1, Reiser First Subdivision, located in the SE ¼ of the SW ¼ of Section 17, T95N, R67W was approved by the board. The board tabled action on a plat in Schmitz First Subdivision until the Planning and Zoning Administrator receives official documents.

Golden West gets the green light

Golden West Telecommunications was given the go-ahead to directional bore under 333rd Avenue in Section 20 T99N, R73W, in order to provide telecommunication service to 27756 333rd Avenue.

Warranty comes up short of lease length

The warranty on the two 2017 John Deere 772 G motor graders will expire at 5,000 hours, but the county will need 6,000 hours to finish out the term of the lease. This extended warranty will cost $13,576 for each piece of equipment. The board agreed to purchase the extended warranty.

Thank you, Beadle County

The commissioners agreed to accept True North Steel’s bid for culverts through Beadle County’s bid that was accepted January 19, 2021.

Naked faces now acceptable at courthouse

Although the board made the decision to lift the mask mandate for courthouse employees effective immediately, employees may continue to wear a mask if they choose or at the request of a customer.

The next regular meeting of the commissioners will be held at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at the Gregory County Courthouse.
