KBR Leadership Gathers to Dive Into Education

KBR Leadership Academy held their Education session in Rock County on Wednesday, November 16th. The session began in the brand-new meeting room of the Rock County Library. Macey Lackaff, head librarian, shared with the group the long process the library went through to complete the remodel. She also shared all the new and exciting things the library will be able to offer with their updated space. Breakout sessions were held with Rock, Brown, and Keya Paha administrators, athletic directors, and school board members. The class was given the opportunity to listen to the different groups discuss their roles in the school systems. The groups shared the positive things happening in the districts as well as challenges in education today. After the breakout sessions, the participants were treated to coffees made by Sweet Bean, one of RCHS’s school-based businesses. The next guest was Dr. Leah Barrett from Northeast Community College. She visited with the group about leadership as well as all the exciting things NECC is offering to our area schools. Nickie Ebert, RCPS K-6 Principal, gave the group a tour of Bassett Grade School. Kayla Fischer, RCPS AD and a participant in this year’s class, gave the group a tour of Rock County High School. After the tours, the class was served a school lunch. After lunch, Sweet Bean gave a presentation to the group on how they got started, their current business model and plans they have for their future business. Becky LeZotte, from ESU 17, broke the class into small groups and conducted virtual escape rooms with them. The session finished at Schoolhouse Rock. The class was greeted by the school’s Heroes. They gave a tour of their facility and also shared how their school operates and a glimpse of their day-to-day activities. Ann Dvorak joined via zoom to answer questions about Acton Academy and all it involves. The day was a wonderful look at education in our tri-county area and all the opportunities the children of our area have available to them. We are very lucky to live in the communities we do.
