Sandhills Care Center Has Fun With Trick or Treaters

Sandhills Care Center was able to open their doors this year to the Trick or Treaters. While Trick or Treating, the youth were able to say hi to the residents, exchange some smiles with each other and maybe in some cases, they exchanged a hug or two.

2022 AHS Volleyball 18-16 Winning Season

Throughout the season, Coach Jeri Graff pumped up her team during time outs. Graff said that some of the players set new school records for the volleyball team at Ainsworth Community Schools. New records were: Blocks in a Match - Cameryn Goochey had 8 vs Gordon Rushville on October 15th which tied with Kirsten Petersen’s record from 2008; Blocks in a Season - Cameryn Goochey with 67; Blocks in a Career - Cameryn Goochey with 142; Digs in a Match - Kerstyn Held with 38 vs Burwell on September 22, 2022; and Assists in a Season - Dakota Stutzman with 463.

Truman The weather for Halloween was super. The kids could run up and down main street without a coat, no wind either. We were to get snow on Thursday but we didn’t get anything. The farmers are harvesting very fast. The dust in the country is terrible.

Question: Should I keep watering my trees after they go dormant? It’s hard to think about our outdoor plants in the winter, however they are still alive and need some care, even when dormant. In fact, evergreen trees and shrubs don’t go dormant at all and dormant deciduous trees and shrubs are still transpiring although it is at a lower rate than in warmer weather.

Shining a Light on the Service of Local Veterans

In 1954, President Eisenhower signed a bill proclaiming November 11 as Veterans Day, calling on the nation to “solemnly remember the sacrifices of all those who fought so valiantly, on the seas, in the air, and on foreign shores, to preserve our heritage of freedom, and let us reconsecrate ourselves to the task of promoting and enduring peace so that their efforts shall not have been in vain.”

Josie Ganser Receives Fall Research Stipend

Josie Ganser of Ainsworth is among 202 Husker undergraduates who have been awarded stipends by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to participate in research with a faculty mentor this summer. Ganser, a sophomore animal science major, will participate in the project “The Effects of FSH on Follicle Growth and Fibrosis on Bovine Ovarian Cortex Cultures” as part of Nebraska’s Undergraduate Creative Activities and Research Experience (UCARE) Program, which supports undergraduates to work with faculty mentors in research or creative activities.

As many readers noticed and commented, I goofed up the Sample Ballots in last week's edition of the Ainsworth Star-Journal! I published the front of the Sample Ballot twice, instead of the front and back of the Sample Ballot. So, this week is the correct Sample Ballot (I checked multiple times to ensure I had it correct).
