The word Allium means onion in Latin, so it is no surprise that alliums are ornamental onions. They send up stalks that vary in height by variety that are topped with an almost round flower head containing up to one hundred florets. Since they smell like onions, most pests like deer and squirrels won’t bother them.

Caring for the Cargiver

Every day in the clinic or hospital I meet extraordinary caregivers. They are the ones who have gone above and beyond the call of duty; sometimes for years at a time. When you ask them how they do it, they shrug and smile. I am not talking about any doctor, nurse, or therapist. I am referring to those who care for and look after their elderly friends and family members. This can be a spouse, adult child, adult grandchild, neighbor, or even a good friend.

Complete Fire Ban Continues in Brown County

Ainsworth Fire Chief Brad Fiala said, 'After consulting with other fire chiefs in Brown County, it has been decided to continue the fire ban in Brown County.' 'Due to dry conditions and going into fall, no fires will be permitted in Brown County. This includes the communities of Ainsworth, Long Pine and Johnstown,' said Fiala.
