How About a Little Tolerance for a Change? News Item: A Subway sandwich customer allegedly shot two employees after he reportedly became angry over too much mayonnaise on his sandwich, police said. One employee died and the other is in critical condition.

2022 AHS Alumni Parade

Along with the many AHS Alumni Class Floats there were many other entries in the 2022 Alumni Parade held on Saturday, June 25th. The parade started at the East City Park and went down 3rd Street and up Main Street. Leading the parade just behind the American Legion Color Guard was the Ainsworth High School Marching Band.

Steers for Students Pilot Program Takes Off at Husker Meats

Husker Meats hosted the first Steers for Students pilot program at their facility in Ainsworth, NE on Wednesday, June 29th. Steers for Students is an educational program geared for the youth of the Sandhills. This program will allow students an educational opportunity to evaluate and grade carcasses of locally grown beef, observe how a packing plant operates and supply their own schools with delicious Sandhills beef.

Donating Blood Gives Students a Chance at Scholarships

The community is invited to roll up a sleeve and answer the call for patients in need by donating blood on Friday, July 8, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Blood donors are lifesaving heroes. At this special blood drive, they also have the chance to help high school seniors earn scholarships through the American Red Cross High School Scholarship Program.

Highway 20 Construction Through Ainsworth Update

Carl Hart, Highway Project Manager, reported July 1st that A&R Construction is planning to close Richardson Drive and Ash Street intersections following the July 4th holiday. They continue to place concrete in the remaining intersections and driveways.

6,200-Plus Huskers Named to Spring Deans’ List

More than 6,200 University of Nebraska-Lincoln students have been named to the Deans’ List for the spring semester of the 2021-22 academic year. Students from this area named to the Deans’ List include: Ainsworth: Rebecca Anne Taylor, senior, College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, environmental science.

Ainsworth Lions Club Holds Regular Meeting

The regularly scheduled meeting of the Ainsworth Lions Club was held Monday, June 20, 2022 at Canyon Creek. Fifteen members were present. Lion Beatty opened the meeting, lead the pledge and prayer. The minutes from the previous meeting were approved, as was the Treasurer’s Report.

KBR Rural Public Power A regular meeting of KBR Rural Public Power District Board of Directors will be held Tuesday, July 5th at 1:00 p.m. in the District Office at 374 North Pine Street, Ainsworth.
