Brown County Republican Party Schedules Convention

The Brown County Republican Party will hold the Brown County Republican Convention at the Palmer Law Office, 121 East 2nd Street, Ainsworth, NE 69210, on March 11, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. At the County Convention there will be an election of party officers and delegates to represent Brown County at the Republican State Convention to be held on May 18, 2024, at the Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln, NE.

Northeast’s Brightest Students Honored

Seventy-four were inducted into an honor society that recognizes academic success and leadership at Northeast Community College. Levi Goshorn of Ainsworth qualified for PTK for the Spring 2024 semester.

Brown County Commissioners Approve Charge for Stranded Vehicles

For a number of meetings, the Brown County Commissioners have been discussing imposing a charge for removing stranded or inoperable vehicles from county roads during inclement weather. At the February 20th meeting of the Commissioners they voted unanimously to approve a resolution setting of a charge of $500.00 per hour, with a minimum of one hour charge.

Calista’s Family Styling Salon has opened its doors at 208 E. South Street in Ainsworth. Owner, Calista Wilson, will be offering haircuts, hair coloring, nail enhancements, waxing, highlights, perms and manicures to all ages, men and women. Primary Election Filing Deadline for Non-Incumbents is March 1st

The filing deadline for non-incumbents for the Primary Election to be held on May 14th, 2024 is Friday, March 1st. People who have filed as of noon on Monday, February 26th are: Brown County Commissioner 4-year term are Buddy Small (incumbent) and Donnie Painter.

“Ainsworth Is Headed to State” What an exciting weekend for the Ainsworth Bulldogs! Friday, February 23rd, the girls basketball team had a battle with the Elmwood Murdock Lady Knights in the district finals played in Albion. The Lady Bulldogs proved they had a right to be their as they battled to the end, only loosing to the Knights, 45-52.

Legislative Notes

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) recently announced that is seeking Public Comment on the new and improved Habitat Conservation Plan and Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for the R-Project powerline. I strongly encourage all Nebraskans to oppose this powerline and contact their Public Power board member. The tragic and unnecessary destruction of the most environmentally sensitive and beautiful part of Nebraska is the wrong choice.
