Danny L. Cole, age 61, of York, died Friday, April 10, in Lincoln. He was born July 4, 1964, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Ronald and Jessie “Nell” (Jones) Cole. His family moved to Nebraska when he was in elementary school and he graduated from Albion High School in 1983. During high school, he and his brother Ron worked in Ogallala doing gun fight shows. Following high school, he went to Oklahoma City to join Ron doing gun fight shows at Frontier City. He started college at Oklahoma Christian, attending for one year. At this time, he became a member of the United States Army in 1985 and served during the Gulf War, he was stationed in Panama and Germany, and then serving in Iraq. He then served in the National Guard for eight years. He received many awards while in the military. He was married to Laura Breazeale on June 5, 1993, in York. They met while working at Epworth Village in York. They both finished their Bachelor's degrees at York College, while starting their family. They served as dorm parents there for two years. Dan also worked for Mosaic in York for many years, helping to build their new facility, that is now their workshop. Dan worked at hospitals in Neligh and Ainsworth, which took the family away from York for six years. During this time, they began their 25 years of serving as foster parents. Dan worked for Henderson Hospital and CTEC after his return to York. He was blessed to work for Seqouia and then settled at York University where he had been for 15 years, before retiring in May
of 2025.
Dan enjoyed coaching baseball and wrestling for many years. He was known for his ornery spirit. He enjoyed playing pranks on people and in return enjoyed having pranks played on him. He fiercely loved being a father and a grandfather. He guided his flock, no matter how many he had, at one time nine being the highest number. Dan was a member of the East Hill Church of Christ in York. He had a strong faith and led many souls to be believers. He has such a servant heart with his mother and was always on call to take care of her. He often bragged about how she wrote letters to him every single day when he was in Iraq.
Although he had a life of physical pain, he always had a smile when he walked into the room. He enjoyed fishing, being at the lake, watching and coaching baseball and wrestling. But mostly spending time with his family and friends, always open to a good party or barbeque. He was very passionate about the friends he met during his time in the military and enjoyed meeting up with them for trips that they planned every few years.
