The Ainsworth Fire Department received an emergency call just after 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 13th. Three men from Cherry County were goose hunting east of Ainsworth on Quinn’s Gravel Pit when their dog went out onto the ice to retrieve a goose and broke through the ice. The hunters reported the dog was then pushed under the ice by strong winds. Ainsworth Fire Chief Brad Fiala reported the hunters found a boat and tried to get to the dog, but ice on the lake prevented them from getting to the dog in time. Three firemen on a boat helped the hunters back to shore and then retrieved the dogs body. The fire department was assisted by the Brown County Sheriff’s Department and Brown County Ambulance Association.
