    Brown County Report August 20 - 26, 2023 Sunday, August 20th The Brown County Ambulance Association responded to two 911 calls in Ainsworth on this day each resulting in the transport of one patient to the hospital. Responded to a domestic disturbance in Ainsworth.

    “Brown County Fair” As you make plans to attend this year’s Brown County Fair, dress for very hot weather. Right now the predictions are 92˚ - 98˚, Friday - Monday, and as many of us know, that can and probably will change.

    Legislative Notes

    Article III, section 27 of Nebraska’s Constitution says that new legislation ordinarily becomes effective “three calendar months after the adjournment of the session at which it passed.” This year, that date falls on September 2nd. Among many other new laws that will “go live” at that time is LB 77, my constitutional carry bill.

    Both Sides Adamant They Are Right in Private School Scholarship Debate We should know soon if a group called Support Our Schools Nebraska was successful in gathering enough petition signatures to allow voters to decide the fate of the Opportunity Scholarship Act passed by the Legislature in its tumultuous session. The tax credit law (LB753) gives tax credits for individuals and entities making donations to scholarship funds intended to help students attend private and faith-based schools.

    Taylor Allen Joins Ainsworth Star-Journal

    Taylor Allen, a senior at Ainsworth High School, will be working at the this school year as a COE student. “As I am a senior at AHS, I have the opportunity to COE at the Ainsworth Star-Journal with a hope to pursue a career in publishing,” said Allen.
