Spring is finally here in the Northern Plains and summer feels just around the corner. As all we Northerners know, as soon as the temperatures hit even a mild degree on the thermometer most of us shed the jackets and long pants, and our skin is frontand- center.

Ainsworth played host to the District Music Contest on Friday, April 21st. Serving as accompanist for the Ainsworth students throughout the day were Sherry Campbell and Kim Bejot.

Legislature Moves Toward Building a Prison, Caution Remains The Legislature’s Appropriations Committee has signed off on providing the funds to build a $366 million prison in the Lincoln-Omaha area just as the Department of Corrections brings on a new director who appears to favor programming and investing in the humanity of the incarcerated. That brings some hope to a small but fierce band of senators who don’t think building is the best way out of the problem for the nation’s most overcrowded prison system.

Yesterday, my priority bill (LB 77) passed final reading with exactly thirty-three votes. It will be signed by the Governor next Tuesday, May 2nd at 2:00 p.m. in the Warner Chamber of the Capitol. I have been working on this bill for the entire seven years I’ve spent in the legislature.
