    Jack and Marilyn Anderson Observe National Vietnam War Veterans Day

    National Vietnam War Veterans Day on March 29, 2023 was observed in Ainsworth by Jack and Marilyn Anderson. Each year the couple erect flags to observe National Vietnam War Veterans Day. Jack is a Vietnam Veteran having served two tours of duty in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. The Vietnam War started in November of 1955 and lasted until the fall of Saigon on April 30th, 1975. U.S. involvement increased under President John F. Kennedy, from just under a thousand military advisors in 1959 to 23,000 by 1964. By November 1967, the number of American troops in Vietnam was approaching 500,000. In 1982, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was unveiled in Washington, D.C. On it were inscribed the names of 57,939 American men and women killed or missing in the war; later additions brought that total to 58,200.

    Ainsworth FFA Members Attend 95th Annual State FFA Convention

    The Ainsworth FFA Chapter attended the 95th annual State FFA Convention in Lincoln, NE. 30 FFA members attended the convention to participate in competitions, workshops, convention sessions, and networking opportunities. Several Ainsworth FFA members were recognized for their achievements throughout the year, and achievements from State FFA Convention.

    Social Security Board of Trustees: Projection for Combined Trust Funds One Year Sooner than Last Year

    The Social Security Board of Trustees released its annual report on the financial status of the Social Security Trust Funds. The combined asset reserves of the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance and Disability Insurance (OASI and DI) Trust Funds are projected to become depleted in 2034, one year earlier than projected last year, with 80 percent of benefits payable at that time.

    USDA Forest Service Invests to Reduce Wildfire Risk to Communities in Nebraska and Other States

    Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced yesterday that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service is investing $1,590,004 in wildfire protection projects across Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wyoming, as part of the Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG) program. The CWDG program is designed to assist communities, including Tribal communities, non-profit organizations, state forestry agencies and Alaska Native corporations with planning for and mitigating wildfire risks on tribal, state, and privately managed land.
