Brown County Community Foundation Presents Scholarships

The Brown County Community Foundation recently presented scholarships for the following categories: Jan O’Hare Memorial, Teacher Education, Non-traditional and Upper Class College Student Scholarship. Winners for 2023 include: Non-Traditional Student - Tiffany Barthel - $1,000.00 and Emily Jones - $1,000.00; Upper Class College Student Benjamin Flynn - $1,000.00 and Alyssa Erthum - $1,000.00; Teacher Education - CeeAnna Beel - $1,150.00 and Elizabeth Wilkins - $1,150.00; and Jan O’Mare Memorial - Madelyn Goochey - $500.00.

In a world that values self-serving motivations, we seldom reflect on how little decisions we make today vastly impact the lives of others tomorrow. But tiny acts of heroism always prevail, even in our hometowns. Showing up to the local blood drive is one of these opportunities.

Jake Graff is Areas New Veterans Service Officer

Jake Graff has been hired as the new Veteran’s Service Officer (VSO) for Brown, Rock and Keya Paha Counties. Graff took over duties as the VSO on May 30th and is serving veterans in the three county area.

Ainsworth Men’s Golf League

Doug Weiss fired a 2-under par round of 34 to take the top spot Thursday during men’s league golf at the Ainsworth Golf Course. Weiss finished one shot clear of Nick Martin, who carded a 1-under par round of 35. Kevin Martin posted an even-par 36, followed by Robert Magill with a 37, John Pierce and Brett Knoetzel with rounds of 38, and Jim Hoch, Kyle Jackman and Graig Kinzie with rounds of 39.

Ainsworth Women’s Golf League

The team of Kathy Worrell, Stephanie Kinzie and Julie Micheel remain in first place with a team score of 57 points in week six of the Women’s League Golf on June 28th. The team of Ann Hoch, Jen Martin and Wendy Wilkins are in second place with 46.5 team points.
