Work has Started on North Main Street Project

City Administrator Lisa Schroedl reported at the regular Ainsworth City Council meeting on February 14th that Myers Construction has started work on the North Main Street Project and the first change order has come in.

Ainsworth Fire & Rescue and Brown County Ambulance Association Awards Night Held

The 133rd Annual Ainsworth Fire & Rescue Department and Brown County Ambulance Association award night was held Saturday, February 17th at the Ainsworth Elks Lodge. Ainsworth Fire & Rescue Department This past year, the Ainsworth Fire Department responded to a wide variety of calls ranging from vehicle accidents to wild land fires with a few gas meter hits, storm watches and controlled burns and training burns included as well.

District Court

Brown County District Court was in session on February 13, 2024 with Judge Mark Kozisek presiding. The People were represented by Brown County Attorney Andy Taylor.

Kat’s Korner

Once again, the “Golfing Grannies” (Jennifer Martin, Wendy Wilkins, Ann Hoch and myself) came out swinging at six different golf courses in Arizona - Augusta Ranch, Scottsdale Silverado, Long Bow, Talking Sticks, Painted Mountain and Toka Sticks, giving us the opportunity to play 18 holes each day we were there.

Brown County Sheriff’s Report

February 11th – February 17th, 2023 Sunday, February 11th Officer issued a citation for improper/defective lighting. Officer issued a citation for speeding 81 mph in a 65 mph zone.

Legislative Notes

Valentines Day was the deadline for Senators to designate their personal priority bill. A senator can introduce as many bills as they wish during the first ten days of the session. Our rules say the Speaker must put priority bills on the agenda. This assumes the Senator has managed to convince the chairman of the committee to hold an executive session and advance their bill to the floor for debate by the full legislature. Bills that do not advance are held by the committee and cannot be put on the agenda.

Wait, what? Governor Jim Pillen has reversed his opposition to a federal summer grocery program that would aid around 150,000 children of low-income families. Pillen succumbed to a lot of outside pressure from a bipartisan group of state lawmakers, a bill introduced by one of them to request the aid and another state senator who made it his priority to ensure it would be debated in the remaining days of the legislative session.

Valentine FSA Reminds Producers of March 15 Deadline

Valentine U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Kami Ormesher has announced that agricultural producers can now enroll in the Farm Service Agency’s (FSA) Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs for the 2024 crop year. The deadline to complete enrollment and any election change is March 15, 2024.

Ainsworth Speech Team Hosts Ainsworth Speech Meet

On Saturday, February 17th, the Ainsworth Speech Team hosted the Ainsworth Speech Meet. This was a great opportunity for the speakers to compete against teams from the area and get a glimpse at some district competition.
