Local High School Musicians Participate in 28th Annual Masonic All-Star Marching Band

Two Ainsworth High School students, Colby Beegle, and William Biltoft, were among 175 high school students from across Nebraska who participated in the 28th Annual Nebraska Masonic All-Star Marching Band, which performed an impromptu concert in the Student Union on Saturday, June 3rd, due to the lightning delay of the Shrine Bowl game in Kearney.

NECC President’s and Deans’ Lists

Northeast Community College has released the President’s Honor List and Deans’ Honor List for both full and part-time students for the Spring 2023 semester. To be named to the President’s Honor List, students must earn a grade point average of 4.0 and be enrolled for at least 12 credit hours.

United Methodist Youth Fellowship Makes First Mission Trip in Three Years

On Monday, May 22nd, 16 high school youth and eight sponsors from the United Methodist Church, traveled to Grand Island to do mission work at Habitat for Humanity and Hope Harbor Shelter. After 22 years of mission trips, this is the first trip the United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) group has been able to take in three years because of COVID.

Sandhills Cowboy Hall of Fame 2023 Inductees

The 18th annual Nebraska Sandhills Cowboy Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony will be held June 10, 2023, at the 4-H Building at the Cherry County Fairgrounds in Valentine. Social Hour will begin at 4:00 p.m. Benefit Auction will take place at 5:00 p.m. Banquet at 6:00 p.m. and Induction Ceremony will begin at 7:00 p.m. All times are in Central Standard Time.

Legislative Notes

Yesterday the first of June the Nebraska Legislature adjourned “sine die.” The Latin words mean “without day.” In plain English it means the first session of the 108th Legislature has ended. This completes my seventh session as a state senator. The next session will be my last.

The Brown County Sheriff’s Department investigated a one-vehicle accident on May 24th, 2023 on Highway 183 near mile marker 277. Duane Reposa, age 80, of McCook, NE was driving a 2007 Dodge Durango southbound on 183.
