Joan Margaret Callaway Jackson, born January 5, 1931, in Dustin to parents Margaret Bruns Callaway and Connie C Callaway, and passed away on January 14, 2025. Joanie is survived by her children Marsha Hanson of Wyoming, Minn., Michael Jackson of Surprise, Ariz., Marti Rothrock of Greeley, Colo., and Paula (Robert) Grady of Elbert, Colo. H er surviving siblings are Con (Bette) Callaway of Sun City, Ariz., Jody Callaway of Wood, S.D., and sister-in-law Sue Callaway of Ainsworth. S he i s also s urvived by her step siblings Steve Babbitt (Sally) of Broken Bow, Nancy Drent (Ernie) of Beatrice, and Gary Babbitt (Sharon) of Richland, Wash. Also survived by her grandchildren Kristy, Eric (Lori), James (Tanya) Hanson of Minn., Stephanie and Jennifer Henderson of Colo., Chase Williams and Brennen Jackson of Colo., and Blake Jackson of Texas. She was affectionately known as GG to her eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Joanie g raduated f rom h igh s chool i n O ’Neill i n 1 949. S he m arried Donald H Jackson in June 1950 in Ainsworth. Joanie and Don had three sons and three daughters. Over their 55 years of marriage, they lived in Nebraska, Colorado and Minnesota, before retiring in Arizona. Joanie moved back to Colorado in 2021 to be closer to her son and daughters who still resided there. She was a lover of cats and always enjoyed playing Bingo no matter where she was.
Joanie retired from US West in 1996 as a technical assistant. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sun City and she became actively involved in the Lutheran Thrift Store in Sun City, Ariz., until she returned to Colorado.
She is predeceased by her husband Don; her son Donald Mark; an infant son; son-in-law Larry Hanson; her parents; sister Jean Calkins; brothers Lowell and Jack; and her mother and father-in-law Estella and Corlas Jackson.
Joanie will be interred in the Ainsworth Cemetery on October 2 at 11 a.m. with graveside service provided by Bethany Chapter 113.
She is a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Ainsworth.
