John Theodore Appleman was born to Theodore E . a nd M arian M . ( Feagin) Appleman on April 27, 1934, at the Wood Lake P ost Office. H e p assed a way a t his home north of Johnstown on July 24, at the age of 92. John married Verna R. Kienke on May 15, 1954, i n B urke, S .D. T o t his union, f our children were born: Loren (Laurel) of Johnstown, Lana (Gary) Hauck of Utica, S.D., L ila D eRaad o f J ohnstown a nd Leonard (Kim) of Johnstown. John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Verna; three granddaughters; two great-grandsons; sister Barbara (Harry) Pederson; and brothers-in-law Tom Black and Wayne Major. He is survived by his four children; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brother Robert (Wilma) Appleman of Johnstown; sisters Linda Black of West Point and Wanda Major of Laramie, Wyo.; as well as, nieces, nephews other family members and friends.
Funeral service was held on Saturday, August 1, at the Hoch Funeral Home in Ainsworth. Richard Gasser, Eric Sterling, Jon MacDonald and Christina Creech officiated at the event. Music was provided by Sarah Chafee w ith the congregation singing “ Was I t F or Me?” a nd “ A H and Held Out.” The cemetery selection was “Songs of Zion.” The obituary and special remarks were given by Shawna Major. Casketbearers were John’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorials were suggested to the Ainsworth Senior Center in John’s name. Interment was in the Ainsworth Cemetery.
