The NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) has announced the recipients of the 2022-23 NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards and NABC Honors Court, representing outstanding achievement in the classroom by men’s college basketball teams and student-athletes.

Invasive zebra mussels recently were found in Beaver Lake, a private water body near Plattsmouth in eastern Nebraska. An adult mussel was first found on a boat lift in mid-May.

Fifty-two golfers competed Sunday in the annual Men’s Open Tournament at the Ainsworth Municipal Golf Course on Sunday, July 16th. Brady Foster of Bassett was this year’s Men’s Open champion, carding a 1-under par round of 71.

Cody Goochey and Nick Martin fired 2-under par rounds of 34 during Men’s League Golf on Thursday, July 13th at the Ainsworth Municipal Golf Course. Dallas Fowler followed with a 2-over round of 37.

The team of Kathy Worrell, Stephanie Kinzie and Julie Micheel hold on to first place with a team score of 62.5 points in week seven of the Women’s League Golf on July 5th. Women’s League Golf has now transitioned Match Play to Scramble Play for the remainder of the season.

Kevin Martin fired a 1-under par round of 35 to take the top spot Thursday during men’s league golf at the Ainsworth Golf Course. Martin finished one shot ahead of Robert Magill and Nick Martin, who each posted even-par rounds of 36. Jesse Owen and Kyle Jackman shot rounds of 37, followed by Chuck Whitney, Logan Leach and Graig Kinzie with rounds of 38, and Rex Micheel, Troy Brodbeck, Jade Egle, Cam Palmer, Jim Hoch and Cody Goochey with rounds of 39.

Surrounded by his family and the Ainsworth football team and coaches, Carter Nelson announced his commitment to the Nebraska Cornhuskers starting with the 2024 football season. The 6' 5', 215 pound Nelson has been recruited by many colleges for the past year.

The team of Kathy Worrell, Stephanie Kinzie and Julie Micheel leaped into first place with a team score of 46.5 points in week five of the Women’s League Golf on June 21st. After spending four weeks in first place, the team of Ann Hoch, Jen Martin and Wendy Wilkins dropped to second place with 40.5 team points.
