The Ainsworth Lady Bulldogs played three games this past week, winning two and losing one to extend their season record to 10-6. In their first game of the week, the Dawgs hosted Chambers/Wheeler Central at home on Tuesday, January 18th.

The 2022 Southwest Conference Basketball Tournament schedules for both boys and girls have been announced. SWC Girls Basketball First round games for the Girls SWC Basketball Tournament will be held on Monday, January 24th.

Traegan McNally lays out for two of his 11 points against the Boyd County Spartans. The Dawgs defeated the Spartans 68-34.

The Ainsworth Bulldogs played in three games last week, winning two and losing a close one, which improves their 2021-22 season record to 9-3. On Tuesday, January 11th, the Boys Varsity team won a home basketball game against the Boyd County Spartans by 34 points.

The Girls 8-9 Year Old Division was won by Julieta Carranza with Kimberlyn Doke taking second place.

Elks Hold Annual Elks Hoop Shoot

The annual Elks Hoop Shoot was held on Saturday, January 15th in McAndrew Gymnasium in Ainsworth. Contestants had to be at least 8 years of age and no older than 13 year as of April 1, 2022, in order to participate.

Two Ainsworth Wrestlers Compete in West Holt Invite

Mason Painter and Landon Holloway competed in the West Holt Wrestling Invitational in Atkinson on January 14th. Mason Painter competed in the 120 lb.

Madelyn Goochey is fouled by Boyd County’s Addison Birmeier while going for two. Goochey made her free throws to help Ainsworth in their 52-36 win over Boyd County.

Girls Basketball Team Wins Three in a Row

The Dawgs won three games last week, all by major points. Outscoring their opponents by a minimum of 13, the Bulldogs handled their opponents whether they were at home or away, improving their record from 5-5 to 8-5.

Ainsworth Speech Team brought home medals from the Valentine Icebreaker Speech Meet. Medalists included: (Front Row - Left to Right): Alyssa Erthum, Dakota Stutzman and Hannah Beel; (Back Row - Left to Right): Ben Flynn, Taylor Allen, Eden Raymond and Emma Kennedy. Bulldogs Place Third in Valentine’s Icebreaker Speech Tournament

The Ainsworth High School Speech Team saw their first competition of the season on Saturday, January 15th at the Valentine Icebreaker Meet. The team had a great day of competition and finished in 3rd place.

Jolyn Pozehl won her three matches to take first place in the 114 lb. weight class at the Ord Invitational.

River Otter Season Closed January 11

Nebraska’s first regulated harvest season for river otters closed January 11th due to the season close trigger of 75 otters being met. River otters incidentally trapped after January 10th must be turned over to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
