National Vietnam War Veterans Day on March 29, 2023 was observed in Ainsworth by Jack and Marilyn Anderson. Each year the couple erect flags to observe National Vietnam War Veterans Day. Jack is a Vietnam Veteran having served two tours of duty in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. The Vietnam War started in November of 1955 and lasted until the fall of Saigon on April 30th, 1975. U.S. involvement increased under President John F. Kennedy, from just under a thousand military advisors in 1959 to 23,000 by 1964. By November 1967, the number of American troops in Vietnam was approaching 500,000. In 1982, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was unveiled in Washington, D.C. On it were inscribed the names of 57,939 American men and women killed or missing in the war; later additions brought that total to 58,200.
