Taking Preventive Action Against EBT Fraud

In the wake of multiple cases of Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) fraud in Nebraska, the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) reminds those with EBT cards to take preventive measures to protect their benefits.

Legislative Notes

Amidst the focus on the looming budget shortfall, there is some good news to share. Nebraska recently received notification that we have been awarded $218.5 million dollars through the federal Rural Health Transformation Program, the eighth largest state allocation nationwide! This five year national initiative aims to modernize rural health care delivery across America.

A former Nebraska state senator, once again, is calling on the United States to do more to help Ukraine win its war with Russia. Tom Brewer, who served in the Legislature from 2017 to 2025 and earned two Purple Hearts during 36 years in the military, recently made his eighth trip to the front in Ukraine.

Make a Resolution to Volunteer:

The American Red Cross asks Nebraskans to consider giving the gift of time in 2026 by resolving to help people in need as a volunteer. “Our volunteers make up 90% of our workforce and are the beating heart and soul of the Red Cross,” said Jill Orton, Red Cross of Nebraska Region CEO.

Brown County Sheriff’s Report

December 21st Deputies and the Brown County Ambulance Association responded to a single vehicle rollover accident near Long Pine State Park. Both the driver and passenger were found to be ok.

Multispecies Lottery Permit Applications Accepted Beginning January 2

Applications for multispecies Super Tag and Combo lottery permits will be accepted by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission beginning January 2. The Super Tag lottery permit will be valid for one elk of either sex, one antelope of either sex, one deer of either sex and two turkeys (only toms and bearded hens may be taken in the spring).
