July 5th The sheriff’s office received a complaint of people still shooting fireworks after midnight in Long Pine. Deputies patrolled Long Pine.

Ainsworth City Council Holds July Meeting

The Ainsworth City Council met for its regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, July 8. Council members Brad Fiala, Kent Taylor and Heather Lutter were present.

NPPD Hosting Second Open Houses for Ainsworth Wind-Bassett Transmission Line

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) will host two open houses on July 22 in Ainsworth and Bassett to gather public input for a new transmission project in the area. The open house sessions are informal and offer an opportunity to review project information and visit with project team members.

Brown County Commissioners Hold First July Meeting

The Brown County Board of Commissioners met for their first meeting of July on Tuesday, July 7. Commissioners Dennis Bauer and Don Painter were present, and commissioner Jeremiah Dailey was excused absent.

ACS Board of Education Convenes for July Meeting

The Ainsworth Community Schools Board of Education met for its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, July 13. Board members Jake Graff, Bryan Doke, Jessica Pozehl, Crystal Dailey, Frank Beel and Brad Wilkins were present.

Former Ainsworth Resident Timothy Moylan Publishes Memoir

Former Ainsworth resident Timothy Harold Moylan announced the pre-order his deeply personal memoir, 'Rock Bottom Has a Basement: From the Bottle to Borrowed Time' on July 1. More than simply a story about alcoholism, the book is an honest account of addiction, depression, broken relationships, near-death experiences, faith, and ultimately finding hope through recovery.

High Property Taxes are Easy to Describe, Harder to Solve That time of year is nearing – the time when you have to pay the second half of your property taxes, due by the end of August. It’s a big check, and I write two of them, one for my house and one for the small farm that’s still in the family.

Legislative Notes

Taking Time for What Matters Most Summer is flying by, and it can be so easy to become consumed by busy schedules, deadlines, and the constant responsibilities competing for our attention that we miss the opportunities to enjoy the “good life.” Summer in Nebraska offers many opportunities to step back and reconnect with the people and traditions that matter most. Some of my favorite memories as both a kid and a parent involved 4-H, and with county fairs well underway, I am reminded of those values.
