Brown County pickups, trucks and trailers filled with tires lined up at the KBR Solid Waste Transfer Station for Tire Amnesty Day on Friday and Saturday, April 22nd and 23rd. Brown County Transfer Station was allotted to dispose of up to 400,000 pounds of tires this year.

As shown above on Friday, April 22nd, the Highway 20 construction and widening is well underway. On Friday, flag crews were set up to stop and slow incoming highway traffic on the east side of town while cement was laid to dry in front of Ainsworth Motors. The wait was between five and ten minutes. Driveways to these businesses were still open, and should be open for the rest of Highway 20 property owners as the construction moves along. This cement is being laid to widen the highway on the north side to allow two lane traffic when construction begins on the south west to east lane. Once the highway is widened to both the east and west city limits, A&R Construction will begin reconstructing the south surface of the highway first.

The Ainsworth FFA Chapter has been preparing for their competitions throughout their year-round endeavors, and they finally had the chance to bring the competition to the boiling point at their state convention. On April 6th through the 8th, FFA members across the state gathered in Lincoln to attend workshops, sessions, career fairs, the Nebraska State FFA Expo and compete in Leadership and Career Development Events. While the members were decked in their blue corduroy jackets, they were bringing home the gold.

On April 11th through the 13th, three Ainsworth FBLA members travelled to Kearney to participate in the state convention. They were able to participate in networking opportunities, campaigns, competitions, tests, and listen to keynote speakers on business pursuits.

The Mullen Art Show was held on Tuesday, April 12th. Three Ainsworth students, Ben Flynn, June Iturbide and Michelle Eick, attended the show and participated in the Art Activity. This year the activity was decorating a ceramic item after choosing a theme from a list provided. Michelle chose to decorate her ceramic basket in the style of Peter Max, a German-American artist known for using bright colors in his work. June decorated her vase in the style of Yayoi Kusama, a Japanese Manga artist, and Ben chose to decorate a bird figure in the style of Dale Chihuly, an American glass artist.

AHS track athletes traveled to compete in the 61st O’Neill Invitational on Tuesday, April 12th. The 11 participating teams were met in the morning with fair weather, which disappeared suddenly in the afternoon when a front rushed in high winds and cooler temperatures.
