The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first COVID-19 vaccine on Monday, August 23rd. The vaccine has been known as the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, and will now be marketed as Comirnaty (koe-mir’-na-tee), for the prevention of COVID-19 disease in individuals 16 years of age and older. The vaccine also continues to be available under emergency use authorization (EUA), including for individuals 12 through 15 years of age and for the administration of a third dose in certain immunocompromised individuals.

On Thursday, August 19th, three members of the Ainsworth High School Girls Golf team competed in the O’Neill Invitational golf tournament. Playing on the varsity squad for Ainsworth was Haley Schroedl shooting a 143, Shawna Fernau with a score of 158 and Allison Taylor shooting a 209.

North Central District Health Department (NCDHD) recently partnered with the Nebraska State Patrol to conduct alcohol compliance checks in several Nebraska counties. These checks aim to ensure retailers are properly checking I.D.s and only selling to those who are over the age of 21.

John Bradley Jones, AHS Class of 1984, was honored by the Kansas Department of Corrections on August 19th for his retirement after 32 years of service. Brad was born in Ainsworth and is the son of Nancy Falk and the late Richard L. Jones.
