Recycled Tires Get a Second Life

Proof that even the most unlikely materials can have a second life, worn-out tires have been transformed into a durable bench, now serving the village of Springview, Nebraska. The sturdy, eco-friendly seat, donated by the North Central Nebraska RC&D and Champlin Tire Recycling, Concordia, Kansas, has been placed in front of the Keya Paha County Library, offering residents a place to gather and rest. Members of the RC&D who had paid dues were eligible for a drawing, with Keya Paha County winning the bench. Manufactured by Back Atcha Outdoor Furniture, a division of Champlin Tire Recycling, the bench is made from 100% recycled plastics and rubber and designed to last for years while withstanding the elements.
