Schyler Schenk, cutting the ribbon at the Ainsworth Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting on November 15th, is the newest business owner on Ainsworth’s Main Street. On Monday, November 6th, the doors officially opened to Ainsworth Appliance & Repairs at 246 N. Main. Along with his wife, Brittnee and three young children, they will be selling Amana, Whirlpool and Maytag appliances. They will have on hand, refrigerators, freezers, microwaves, stoves, washers and dryers, small appliances and plan on adding TV sets in the future. Attending the ribbon cutting were Chamber Directors, Mallory Sansom, Tanner Jones, Sheena Ferris and Misty Rowley.

Duane Johnson, formerly of Johnstown, was honored with the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum (NSA) Johnny Appleseed Award at a reception on November 3rd in Lincoln. Geri Johnson accepted the award on behalf of her husband, who passed away in June.

I learned a lot of statistics back in medical school, many of which are outdated and long since forgotten. A few still haunt me, though. One example: over 50% of seniors who suffered a broken hip would be in a nursing home, or in their grave, within a year.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) mailed ballots this past week for the Farm Service Agency (FSA) county and urban county committee elections to all eligible agricultural producers and private landowners across the country. Elections are occurring in certain Local Administrative Areas for these committee members who make important decisions about how Federal farm programs are administered locally. Producers and landowners must return ballots to their local FSA county office or have their ballots postmarked by December 4, 2023, for those ballots to be counted.
