Legislative Notes

A lot of bills and resolutions were transformed in the last session because every single bill was being filibustered. Consequently, it was in the best interest of the body to pack as much stuff into one bill as possible. This past session, one of my bills and resolutions ended up being transformed into an interim study. During the interim (the time between sessions) committees will often conduct “interim studies” about a topic that interests the committee.

Accident Report

On Saturday, June 10, 2023 around 4:31 p.m., Brown County Sheriff Deibler was eastbound on Highway 20 near mile marker 248 when he observed a vehicle (1964 Cadillac 6239) travelling westbound on the shoulder of the highway with a person riding on the hood of the vehicle. Deibler observed that the front of the vehicle had severe damage. Deibler stopped and talked to the driver, Dennis B. Janssen, age 48 of Rushville, NE, and was advised that the vehicle had hit a deer a couple of miles back and was at that time only about a half mile from the Brown County line and he was trying to get the vehicle to Ainsworth to meet with a friend to tow the vehicle back to his home in Rushville. The driver stated the deer did enough damage that the hood would not remain latched down without someone on the hood. The driver indicated that he had not seen the deer. The officer assisted Mr. Janssen in getting a ratchet strap to secure the hood. It was estimated that there was $2,000.00 in damages to the vehicle.
