The Gift of Kidney Donation

The first successful organ transplant was a kidney transplant in 1954. The donor was the identical twin of the recipient. The new kidney worked for 11 months. This was long before any anti-rejection medications were available. Cyclosporine, the first anti-rejection medication, was approved for use in 1983. The use of anti-rejection medications has significantly increased how long transplanted organs will function.

Treasurer Murante Announces ‘Why I Want to Go to College’ Contests Winners

Nebraska Treasurer John Murante announced the winners in the 2023 “Why I Want to Go to College” contest, sponsored by the Nebraska State Treasurer’s Office and the Omaha Storm Chasers. The winners will be recognized before the start of the May 21st Omaha Storm Chasers game at Werner Park in Papillion.

Fourth Grade Class Receives Trees for Arbor Day

The Ainsworth Lions Club, represented by Vance Heyer and Mirya Hallock, presented seedlings to 33 members of the Fourth Grade Class at McAndrew Elementary School on Arbor Day. The seedlings were supplied by the Middle Niobrara NRD, with two representatives assisting with the distribution and conducting a live demonstration on the proper procedure to plant the seedlings.
