Troy and Kerry Dodd Participate in the Bataan Memorial Death March

On March 19, 2023, White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, hosted 5,500 marchers for the 34th annual Battan Memorial Death March. The march is to honor the heroic service members who, despite illness and short supplies of food and ammunition, defended the Philippine Islands during WWII. These service members were surrendered to the Japanese military and ultimately forced into the war atrocity known as the Bataan Death March. The course is 26.2 mile living memorial test we forget the unwavering courage and tremendous sacrifices made in defense of our freedom.

Long Pine Bridge on Highway 20 Project Delayed

Construction of proposed Long Pine Bridge project located on US Highway 20 (US-20) over Long Pine Creek has been delayed, according to Nebraska Department of Transportation. At this time, construction is now anticipated to begin sometime in 2024.

Humanities and the Physician

After 40 years as a doctor interacting with patients, in the last two and a half years the tables turned, and I’ve become the patient. Although most are good, I’ve found some doctors are detached, some are too quick, some would rather be somewhere else, some are even angry; but, when a physician who cares walks into the room, and I’m not exaggerating, the day becomes better, the pain becomes less, and hope fills my heart. Scientific knowledge is important, but the ability to convey honest concern, human thoughtfulness and compassion is equal in importance in this healing profession. So, how do we select pre-med students for that, or teach compassion in medical school?

NEA Big Read at the Ainsworth Public Library

The Ainsworth Library is joining the Northeast Community College NEA Big Read during March and April. The Big Read selection will focus on the title of “Sitting Pretty: The View from My Ordinary Resilient Disabled Body” by Rebekah Taussig.
