Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor, The Legislature wrote legislation, LB74 (NE Rev Stat 50-1501) in 2018 that exempted themselves from qualifications challenge except by one person at one specific point in time. Senator Watermeier “...the bill provides clearly that only a losing candidate has standing to challenge an election outcome or file a qualifications challenge.” (floor debate LB744, 2-2-2018). AM1801 to LB744 “... clarifies that members of the Legislature are subject to challenges under the Legislative Qualifications and Election Contest Act, and not under the election statute that applied to other elected officials.” (Senator Watermeier floor debate LB744 2-12-2018).

Legislative Notes

Senator Jacobson introduced LB 281. It will rebuild the 4-H camp lost in the Halsey forest fire this past summer. I was at this fire and witnessed the heart-breaking devastation firsthand. The introduction hearing for this legislation will take place in the Natural Resources Committee on Thursday, February 15th at 1:30 p.m. in the State Capitol, Room 1525. I encourage everyone who would like to see this camp rebuilt to come support this bill.

Capitol News

They reasoned that 32 Republicans in the officially nonpartisan body would win out over the 17 Democrats.

“WILL YOU DANCE WITH ME?” Not to sure who wrote the following article, but it really makes you think about what is important in life. Too many people put off something that brings them joy just because they haven’t thought about it, don’t have it on their schedule, didn’t know it was coming or are too rigid to depart from their routine.
