LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ Jim Pillen was sworn in Thursday, January 5th as the 41st governor of Nebraska, joining a slew of Republicans who claimed all of the state’s top executive offices.

The first session of the 108th Nebraska Legislature has now begun. All the new and returning senators have been sworn in. The speaker and all the committee chairs have been elected and now the process of staffing the committees is almost done. Bill introduction has started. I have introduced my priority bill which is LB 77. This is my constitutional carry bill that would allow concealed carry of weapons by law-abiding citizens. It’s wrong to force citizens to pay money to the government in order to exercise a constitutional right. Twenty-five States have already passed laws like this. Nebraska needs to be number twenty-six.

Partisanship on the Line, Urban-Rural Divide Too? There’s been a lot of talk about preserving the officially nonpartisan nature of the Nebraska Legislature. But there is another issue, occasionally discussed with similar zeal in years past, that’s creeping up again.
