The 9th Annual Elks Trap Shoot was held September 16th at the Sandhills Rod and Gun Club with 24 shooters participating. In the High School Boys Division: Witten Painter took first with 45 of 50 rocks; Blaine Frizzell broke 42 of 50 rocks for second place and Ian Shane broke 39 of 50 rocks for third place.

Fall Trap League was held for the second week at the Sandhills Rod & Gun Club on Wednesday, September 13th. Team standings after the second night found Mob County Boys edging into first place.

The Ainsworth High School Girls Golf team competed in the Mullen Invite on Thursday, September 14th. This was a successful invite for the golfers in which two individuals, Terra Shoemaker and Braylin Rudnick, improved their career low scores that they set earlier this season.

The Ainsworth Bulldog Volleyball Team won two matches when they hosted Chamber/Wheeler Central and North Central Knights on Thursday, September 7th and one more match at the Cozad Tournament where they beat Cozad.

As the summer winds down, the Niobrara National Scenic River is announcing that the visitor center will soon be closed on the weekends to reduce operating hours in the off season. September 23rd will be the final day that the visitor center will be open on the weekends in 2023. After that day, the visitor center will be open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until Memorial Day 2024.

A firearm hunter education course will be offered by Nebraska Game and Parks Commission volunteer instructors in Bassett on Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The free course will be held at the Bassett Legion Club at 201 Buchanan Street and continues on Sunday, October 1, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Ainsworth Rod and Gun Club. The lunch will be provided on Saturday.

The first night of the Fall Trap League was held at the Sandhills Rod & Gun Club on Wednesday, September 6th. Eight teams are participating in the league each Wednesday night through September.

The KBR Rodeo Club competed in three rodeos. Nelson Rodeo The club was in Nelson on Saturday, September 2nd and Sunday, September 3rd.

The Ainsworth Bulldogs picked up their third win of the season by defeating the Burwell Longhorns 28-0. The Bulldogs traveled to Burwell on September 8th and shut out the Longhorns for their third win of the 2023 season.
