Commissioners Approve Changes to Big Game Permit Application Periods

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission approved changes to big game permit application periods at its meeting January 19th in Lincoln. The approved wildlife regulation changes will simplify the application and purchasing process for deer, elk and antelope permits by collapsing eight purchasing periods to four and harmonizing elk and antelope landowner permit application periods.

Looking Back at 2023

On Tuesday, March 7, 2023, Jared Hansmeyer was recognized as District III’s Athletic Director of the Year through the Nebraska State Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, or NSIAAA. This is his 8th year serving as the Co-Activities Director at Ainsworth High School.

Allen and Stutzman Medal at 2023 State Speech Tournament

On Thursday, March 16th, two members of the Ainsworth High School Speech Team, Taylor Allen and Dakota Stutzman, competed in the Class C2 State Speech Tournament at Kearney High School. The two competed at the state level in Duet Acting, and Taylor individually qualified with her Serious Prose piece.

Brown County Sheriff’s Report

January 21 - 27, 2024 Sunday, January 21st Brown County Sheriff’s Department as well as the Brown County Ambulance Association responded to a 911 call from Walnut Street in Ainsworth. One individual was transported to the Brown County Hospital Brown County Ambulance Association transported a flight crew from the Ainsworth Airport to the Brown County Hospital and back to the Airport.

Legislative Notes

Early in my first year in office in 2017, I received one of the very first “constituent services” calls from a ranch family in the Sandhills north of Mullen west of Highway 97. The ranch hand on the phone I will call him “Bob” for this story. The call began by him congratulating me for winning my election. He said the family had called every new state senator representing the Sandhills at the beginning of the session since the 1950s.
