Ainsworth Senior Center Celebrates 45 Years

Forty-five years ago on August 2, 1981, the Ainsworth Senior Center held an open house to celebrate their new building. Senior Center officers in 1981 were Dorothy Walton, Bill Gudgel, Dwight Moody, Burdetta Jansen and George Brede.

A Friday night fire destroyed a building in Ainsworth. According to Ainsworth Assistant Fire Chief Devin Painter, at approximately 9:30 p.m.
Ainsworth Community Schools Begins Classes on Thursday, August 13

Ainsworth Community Schools will open its doors to students for the 2026-27 school year on Thursday, August 13. The school has a host of new employees beginning this year.
Ainsworth Reclaims Border Cup

Ainsworth recaptured the Border Cup Saturday at the Ainsworth Golf Course, winning the annual match play event between members of the Ainsworth Golf Course and Bassett Country Club by a score of 15-1/2 to 9-1/2.

At the regular meeting of the Ainsworth City Council on Wednesday, December 8th, following a lengthy discussion on whether the garbage service in Ainsworth should be retained by the city or contracted out to J&J Sanitation of O’Neill, the council voted to continue with the City of Ainsworth providing garbage service for Ainsworth.

District Mock Trial Returns a Verdict of State Qualification for the Ainsworth Blue Team

Throughout the months of November and December, the Ainsworth Blue and Red mock trial teams have been competing both virtually and in-person, presenting the mock trial case of The State of Nebraska vs. Jules Chapelle. Adapting to the different rules of virtual and in-person trials, both teams demonstrated perseverence throughout the unusual season.

Santa Visits Long Pine

As Christmas draws near, Santa made a stop in Long Pine on December 11th to visit with young people to learn what they would like for Christmas. He set up at the Long Pine Fire Hall and in honor of his visit, the Long Pine firemen held a soup supper.

The Ainsworth Lady Bulldogs opened the 2021-22 basketball season with a one-point loss (37-38) to the Ord Lady Chanticleers on Friday, December 3rd and a 53-45 win over the Gordon-Rushville Lady Mustangs in Gordon on December 4th.
