The University of Nebraska has appointed a new Food, Nutrition & Health Extension Educator, bringing a wealth of knowledge and passion for community engagement to Brown County and its neighboring counties of Cherry, Keya Paha, Rock, Boyd, and Holt. Brittany Spieker, a Registered Dietitian, steps into this vital role, ready to enhance the health and well-being of local residents through education and resources.

A regular meeting of the Brown County Hospital (BCH) Board of Trustees was held Monday, September 23, 2024. The meeting was called to order by Chairman, Kirk Peterson, at 4:00 p.m. Other members in attendance were John Gross, Brian Delimont, and Brent Deibler. Tate Schipporeit was excused. Also attending were Mirya Hallock - CEO, Tad Stearns - CFO, Tawny Allen - HR, and Robin Johannssen - Recording Secretary. Dr. Kenneth Wasmund also attended. Service Excellence

Carl Hart, NDOT Project Manager, reported that Ainsworth’s Main Street from 2nd Street to 3rd Street was opened for local traffic and parking on Friday, September 27th. In the coming weeks there will be portions of the Main Street parking areas closed throughout the project to complete street lighting work.

In August 2024, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Nebraska Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), in partnership with Middle Niobrara Natural Resources District (NRD) received official approval on the Bone and Long Pine Creek Watershed Project Improvement Plan.
