For the past 40 years and 5 months, Kathy and myself have been co-publishers of the Ainsworth Star-Journal. Over those years we have reported the news and events of Brown County, along with participating in organizations and raising two children.

February 16th through February 22nd, 2025 Sunday, February 16th Responded to a request for a welfare check on a female subject in Ainsworth. The female was located and reported safe at this time.

From Pasture to Policy This week in the Transportation & Telecommunications Committee, Senator Brandt introduced LB561, a bill that would add raw milk as a qualifying commodity under existing law, allowing agricultural commodity transportation exemptions from overweight penalties. The committee also heard testimony from candidates for the Underground Excavation Safety Committee.

Merging agencies always sounds good, give the illusion of progress As a young reporter, I got the opportunity to cover, and learn a few things, from maybe the greatest state senator ever, Jerome Warner. He was the kind of state senator who just commanded respect, and unlike some politicians, had a well-formed group of beliefs that guided his decision making.

Dear Editor: 1. Delinquent Real Estate Taxes I would like to address the issue of publishing Delinquent Tax lists in the newspaper by the Brown County Treasurer without a courtesy notice sent. It makes you appear to be a “deadbeat” especially as I was only delinquent since September 1 (5 months).
