The Board of Education of School District #10 held a regular meeting on January 9, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. The meeting, originally schedule for January 8, 2024 for 5:30 p.m. was moved due to the pending winter storm and to protect the traveling public. Board members present were Brad Wilkins, Scott Erthum, Bryan Doke, Jessica Pozehl, Frank Beel, and Mark Johnson. Members absent: none. Also present was Superintendent Dale Hafer. Notice of the meeting was in the Ainsworth Star-Journal and on radio station KBRB.

In order for the Ainsworth Board of Education to be well-informed to make a decision concerning the district continuing its involvement with the Southwest Conference (SWC), the school board requested information about what it would look like to be independent from SWC. Luke Wroblewski, the school’s activities director, provided a list of pros and cons concerning this topic of ongoing discussion. The list is as follows:

My father-in-law is a farmer. He grew up on the family farm in southwest Minnesota, where his dad grew up, too. Blessed by fertile soil, the farm has provided for the family for several generations. It is invaluable for my children to experience the farm, see the crops grow, help with animals, and learn about the cycles of life on the farm.

Hunters may begin purchasing their 2024 spring turkey season permits from the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission beginning at 1:00 p.m. Central time January 8th. They also should reacquaint themselves with major changes from 2023.

Candidate filing for the May 14, 2024, statewide primary began January 5th. Individuals who wish to run for state and federal offices in 2024 can start filing with the Nebraska Secretary of State’s office now.
