    Smith Falls Reopens With New Boardwalk

    Visitors are again enjoying the sight of Smith Falls, Nebraska’s tallest waterfall. The waterfall at Smith Falls State Park, and the newly constructed 500-foot boardwalk to it, reopened May 26 with only finishing touches remaining in the process.

    Jr. Angler Fishing Clinic and Lightning Awareness

    Come out and bring your kids to learn how to fish at Cub Creek Recreation Area on Highway 12 on June 17th from 9 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Central. Registration for children under 12 is required as they will receive a free fishing pole thanks to Friends of the Niobrara River and the National Park Foundation.     Summer Program Experiences in the Niobrara Valley Watershed

    Over the next several months, National Park Service Rangers from Niobrara National Scenic River will be hosting a wide variety of summer programs around the local area. As staffing allows, there will be Junior Ranger Programs at Smith Falls State Park near the Visitor Center on Sundays at 10:00 a.m.

    Question: My irises aren’t blooming, why? If you’ve had good blooms in the past, the most likely culprit is overcrowding, irises should be divided every three or four years. This should be done four to six weeks after blooming by trimming the leaves back to six to eight inches tall, digging up the entire plant and pulling the rhizomes apart.
