You are probably familiar with drug commercials. There are all sorts of them showing people being active and smiling as they attend a birthday party, go biking, go surfing, or shopping at a flower shop. At some point they start listing some of the side effects and precautions, including some obvious and some scary statements. “Do not take this medication if you take nitrates for chest pain, do not take this medication if you do not suffer from a disease, or do not take his medication if you are allergic to this medication. Stop taking this medication if you experience headache, dizziness, sudden death, or body odor.”

A regular meeting of the Brown County Hospital (BCH) Board of Trustees was held Monday, May 22, 2023. Present were Chairman Tate Schipporeit, board members Brent Deibler, Kirk Peterson and John Gross.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln conferred a record 3,753 degrees during commencement exercises on May 19th and 20th. The 3,669 graduates are from 59 countries; 47 states, the District of Columbia and Guam; and more than 240 Nebraska communities.

Alpha Delta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma met May 20th, 2023 for the final meeting of the 2022-2023 year. The meeting was held at the Long Pine home of Di McNutt. Four members answered roll call and made a donation to the Read Aloud Nebraska/Nebraska State Project fund.

As schools let out for the summer and outdoor activities increase, so do calls to Poison Centers. Exposure to plants, insects and chemicals can put a damper on the fun and cause lasting injuries. Prevention is the key to safety and a high priority for the Poison Center.
