    May 24th, Governor Jim Pillen announced he has signed the 20232025 Biennium budget and issued line item vetos. “The budget passed by the Legislature and signed into law by me is one of the most fiscally conservative budgets in our state’s history,” said Governor Pillen.

    LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska lawmakers passed a bill Wednesday, May 24th that will channel public money to scholarships for private school tuition, despite critics who say the measure hurts public schools, benefits wealthy taxpayers and helps mostly parochial schools that can discriminate against LGBTQ+ students.

    Lawmakers Pass Budget That Includes a Costly Ditch and a New Prison Amid nasty debate about social issues, filibustering and theater playing out in the legislative chamber, lawmakers did manage to meet their constitutional obligation and pass a balanced budget on day 80 of the 90-day session. The two-year budget calls for about $5.3 billion a year in spending, with an average increase of 2.2%.
