Most Women Ever Set to Serve in Nebraska Legislature There will be 18 women sworn in as state senators in January, the most ever in the Nebraska Unicameral Legislature. Half declare as Republicans and half as Democrats in the officially nonpartisan body.

'Winter Is On Its Way' Well, as I type this Kat’s Korner, I’m still wondering what Mother Nature is going to bring our way. We’ve had some moisture already this morning in the form of mist on the windows and windshields.

Brown County Commissioners Authorize Line of Credit for Sandhills Care Center

During the regular meeting of the Brown County Commissioners on December 6th, the Commissioners approved a resolution authorizing Commissioner Buddy Small to sign the necessary documents to provide a $450,000.00 line of credit for the Sandhills Care Center with the City of Ainsworth being responsible for half.

Hoefel and Baker Honored for Service During World War II

Shirley Baker Hoefel, 97 (seated left) and Glen Baker, 94 (seated right) were honored on December 2nd for their services by the American Legion and Auxiliary. Baker is Brown County’s last living WWII veteran and was honored with a certificate and WWII pin for his service in the U.S. Navy during wartime. Hoefel served her country during WWII as a “Rosie The Riveter” in Hastings, NE and was also presented a certificate and a Department Auxiliary pin. Shirley and Glen formerly of Ainsworth both reside at the Rock County Hospital Long Term Care in Bassett. Note of interest, Shirley’s job was to place card board around bombs.

Winners Announced for the Ainsworth Chamber Bucks Drawing

Ainsworth Area Chamber of Commerce held its second drawing for the Chamber Bucks Giveaway on Friday, December 9th. Each winner will received $50.00 each for shopping at an Ainsworth Chamber of Commerce participating store.
