Olivia Beel Receives Blue Ribbons at State Fair

Olivia Beel, of Johnstown, Nebraska represented the BKR counties at the Nebraska State Fair by exhibiting two market gilts. Olivia Beel received a blue ribbon in Senior Swine Showmanship. She also received blue ribbons for her market gilts “Oreo” (shown in the picture) in Class 17 and “Pinky” in Class 15. One of Olivia’s favorite memories of Nebraska State Fair 2022 is the opportunity to share her passion for pigs with those who stop by the swine barn while visiting the fair. This year, she got to visit with a family from Brazil. The families two young children very so happy to learn so much about swine and have such a great experience with animals at the state fair.

Tackling Eastern Redcedars

Nebraska’s grasslands lost more than 419,000 tons of forage production in 2019 due to woody encroachment by species like eastern redcedars. The same year, 19 out of 25 counties in the Sandhills were on a trajectory of decreasing forage production due woody encroachment.

For three days, all of the Bud and Ruth Trobee children got together at Lake McConoughy the last weekend in August. Those attending were Bud and Ruth from Johnstown, Gary, Kim and Drake Trobee of Colorado Springs, CO, Todd and Tara Trobee of Ord, Nat and Serena and Tyler of Colorado, Janette Miller of Ord, Janine and Heather Larson of Ainsworth, Kara and Chuck John of Ord, Shelby Jones, Brent McGee of Gregory and Ethan John of Ord. On Saturday they enjoyed playing music together. A grand time was held by all.
