Nebraska’s Expanded Mountain Lion Season to Kick Off 2025

Nebraska’s mountain lion country will ring in the new year with the busiest hunting season to date for the species, including the first regulated hunt in the Wildcat Hills region. The mountain lion season is divided into three units and begins Jan.

Ainsworth Girls Basketball Team Opens Regular Season Play at Home

The Ainsworth Girls Basketball Team opened regular season play with two home games on December 6th against the Ord Lady Chants and then on December 7th against the Gordon-Rushville Lady Broncos. Ord Lady Chants Ainsworth unfortunately couldn’t capitalize on their homecourt advantage in their season opener.

Scores Remain Steady on Statewide Assessment and Accountability Results

The Nebraska Department of Education released the Nebraska Student-Centered Assessment System (NSCAS) results and the Accountability for a Quality Education System Today and Tomorrow, or AQuESTT classifications today. Both reports provide insight into how students are performing academically on Nebraska’s state standards.

No Public Ice Fishing at Hudson Lake

Hudson Lake, 15 miles southwest of Valentine, will not be open to the public for ice fishing this winter. The lake was formerly part of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s Open Fields and Waters Program, a voluntary program designed to increase public walk-in access for hunting, trapping and/or fishing across the state.
