Edith Shirley (Wrage) Daniels was born August 13, 1920 to Henry A. and Hilda H. (Olson) Wrage at Wrage, NE. She joined a family of three brothers - Ansel, Henry (Bud), Maurice (Mick) and Douglas was born in 1923.

Shirley attended the first 10 years of her education at the Cherry County North Wrage School, District 13 and graduated from high school at the Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis, NE. She was known as the Wrage Tomboy and they called her Jimmy. She learned the boys’ games of baseball, touch football, basketball, arm wrestling and foot racing.

On round up days, Shirley would run the milk separator, make three beds and then be at the barn, in the saddle and ready to go. She was her dad’s top cowhand when there was work to be done. Horseback riding was one of her favorite pastimes.

When she graduated from Curtis, she had earned a 3rd grade Elementary Teaching Certificate. She taught many years in Cherry and Brown Counties. While teaching at the North Elsmere School, she met the love of her life, Noral Daniels. They were married September 4, 1944. Shirley taught at the Moon Lake School in Brown County the first year of their marriage. She rode a horse from the Daniels’ place to the Roy Oatman’s where she boarded and rode home every Friday afternoon.

Noral and Shirley worked at the Chet Fink ranch and lived in the Old Garage. Their first child, Connie was born. After working for the Finks’, they moved to Ender’s Lake, which Noral managed for twelve years. They bought the Ray Biltof place and moved there. Shirley Ann, Steve and Chuck were born and raised there. The family did custom haying for several years. When they had three children in college, Shirley went back to teaching for five more years.

They enjoyed the family. Their main entertainment was done as a family unit, which consisted of water skiing, dancing, playing cards and softball with the neighbors. Shirley enjoyed their home south of Ainsworth, raising cattle and ranching. She had a great love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Shirley died peacefully at the Sandhills Care Center in Ainsworth, NE on August 2, 2022. She was 11 days away from her 102nd birthday. She remained sharp-witted until the very end which kept the staff on their toes and laughing with her.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Hilda Wrage; her brothers, Ansel (Bobbi), Bud (Virginia), Mick (Doris) and Doug (Betty) Wrage; her husband, Noral Daniels; son, Steve Daniels; daughterin- law, Dianne Daniels; granddaughter, Tansy (Pitcher) Forbes and great-granddaughter, Nicole Everhart.

She leaves to mourn her passing her children, Connie Daniels, Scottsbluff, NE, Shirley Ann (Fred) Pitcher, Sioux Falls, SD and Chuck Daniels, Ainsworth, NE, as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, greatgreat- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held on Friday, August 5, 2022 at the Ainsworth Cemetery. Seger Funeral Home of Atkinson were in charge of the services.

During a traffic stop on Highway 7, near mile marker 42, a citation was issued to a Colorado male driver of the vehicle for possession of marijuana, no operator’s license, and speeding 11-15 mph over the posted speed limit. Passengers in the vehicle were issued citations for possession of controlled substances, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

During a traffic stop on Highway 7, near mile marker 41, a citation was issued to a South Dakota driver and passenger for possession of a controlled substance, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

During a traffic stop on Harrington Street in Ainsworth, a citation was issued for speeding 16-20 mph over the posted speed limit to a Washington driver.
