James Ocie Alsworth Perrett, 92

James Ocie Alsworth Perrett, known by everyone as “Ocie,” was born September 16, 1929 to George Fredrick Perrett and Ruth Marie Alsworth Perrett at Hyannis, NE in the house on the hill at the north end of Main Street. At the age of 92, Ocie passed from this life into the joy of heaven not because he deserved it, but because he had trusted Jesus as his Savior.

At the age of five, Ocie contracted Typhoid Fever and spent a considerable amount of time in recovery. Relearning to walk and talk was a challenge he met and mastered even though being told he would not live to be a teenager. A lifelong struggle that remained was his inability to ever again eat Jell-O.

Ocie graduated from Valentine High School in 1947. On October 14, 1951 he was united in marriage to Margaret Louise Carey with Suzie and Jim being born to this loving union. In 1953 Ocie became a soldier in the United States Army. He spent time

In 1953 Ocie became a soldier in the United States Army. He spent time serving in Germany where Maggie joined him after the birth of Suzie. After Ocie’s discharge in 1955, they made their home on a ranch south of Wood Lake, NE.

For 40 years he ranched and enjoyed all things related to cattle, horses and kids. Ocie instructed horsemanship to Suzie, Jim and a number of neighborhood youngsters while serving for 25 years as 4-H leader.

Part of his enjoyment in life was spending time with his grandkids. Trips to special places and pickup rides to check pastures singing along with Ray Stevens were always memorable.

Ocie was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie; son, Jim; daughter, Suzie (Dale) Bussinger; grandchildren, Megan, Jay, Melissa, Beth, Jessica and Michael along with great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
