Kathleen Jo (Kathy Lutz) Johnson was born Nov. 18, 1955, in Mitchell, SD. She was one of seven children born to Tom and Ruth Lutz. Kathy passed away on Oct. 13, 2023, in Chandler, AZ at the age of 67.
Kathy grew up in Long Pine, NE. She graduated from Rock County High School with the class of 1974, in Bassett, NE where she excelled in track and field. She married Jess Johnson in 1976 and had two children. She lived in Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado and Arizona. After a divorce with Jess, she made Arizona her home for 38 years.
Kathy worked for the United Postal Service in Colorado, United Van Lines in Arizona and finally found her career working for her brother Mike in auto transportation. She worked at the auto auction in Las Vegas where she made great friends and retired in 2019.
Kathy was adventurous, she loved to travel and experience activities like hunting, fishing, water-skiing, white-water rafting, attending a NASCAR racing experience, taking cruises and she even camped for a month on a beach in Mexico during the pandemic.
She valued family and made every effort to be at all family gatherings. She loved her children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Kathy was an avid reader of true crime and mystery novels. She loved George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Neil Diamond and U2. She was a fan of Kevin Costner, Dennis Quaid, and Timothy Olyphant watching anything they were in. She enjoyed puzzles, crossword puzzles (she only used pens) and Sudoku. Kathy staunchly supported the Nebraska Cornhusker and Denver Bronco football teams and Rusty Wallace in NASCAR. She was an expert procrastinator and multitasker. Kathy was greatly loved by her family and friends.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Ruth Lutz, sister, Jackie Nagy, son in-law, Mike Cassio, grandson and fiancé, Marty Herman.
She is survived by her children, Sarah Cassio and Isaac Johnson; four grandchildren; her brothers and sisters, Mike (Laura) Lutz, Joel (Judy) Lutz, Diana Shaul and fiancé Mike Dickhausen, Bobbi (Bryan) Coleman, and Sherri (Bill) Klatt.
Graveside memorial service and interment to be held at noon on Saturday, September 21,2024 in the Grandview Cemetery in Long Pine, NE. A Celebration of Life open to family and friends immediately following the service will be hosted at the Bassett American Legion Post 123. Dress and attire is casual in your favorite Cornhusker gear.
