Mable 'Phyllis' (Olson) Slattery, 92, of Tacoma, Wash., passed away peacefully on October 14, surrounded by family.

Born in Yankton, S.D., on July 11, 1933, Phyllis g rew u p i n S outh D akota and Nebraska. In 1949, she married Emil Slattery, and together they raised six children, and one granddaughter, Kim Hahn, while living across several states.

A hardworking woman, she farmed, hauled sugar beets, corn, cattle and helped run family businesses, including Emil and Ron’s Truck and Diesel Repair.

In 1981, the family settled in Gillette, Wyo., where Phyllis became a devoted member of Central Baptist Church. She worked as a teacher’s assistant, served in Home Health, and helped build “Slattery Acres.”

Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, she sang in the choir, cooked for Vacation Bible School, and prayed daily for her loved ones. After Emil’s passing in 1989, Phyllis remained active in her church and family life. She helped raise grandchildren and shared her talents in the kitchen and with a sewing needle. She was also a care giver for several senior individuals that -she deeply cared for.

In 2021, she moved to Tacoma to live with her son Ron, cherishing her final years surrounded by generations of family. She loved baking, gardening, camping, puzzles, and watching game shows and the animal channels.

Phyllis is survived by three children: Vonnie & Kenny Bergfield, Gillette Wyo., Ron & Pam Slattery, Tacoma Wash., Linda Ford, Apache, Okla., L isa S lattery, K ingfisher, O kla.; 1 5 g randchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren; and Aire, her furry companion of 11 years.

She is preceded in death by her husband Emil; Emil Jr; Judy Horlick; Dan Slattery; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held May 13, 2026, in Bassett, where she will be laid to rest beside Emil.
