Michelle Lynn (Thornton) Sterup, age 48, of Osceola, NE, passed away April 2, 2021 at Bryan East in Lincoln.

Michelle was born May 22, 1972 to Johnny Ray and Janice LoRee (Duey) Thornton in Superior. She graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1990. Following high school she enrolled in nursing school at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, then graduated from Creighton University where she received her BSN and RN degrees.

She was united in marriage to Curt David Fisher on June 18, 1994. Curt passed away November 21, 2001.

On December 18, 2004 she was united in marriage to Darin Laurence Sterup. They lived outside of Osceola.

Michelle worked in various nursing positions with her most recent being at the Polk County Health Department as the assistant medical director and school nurse for the last 15 years. Over the years she worked in all of the Polk County schools.

Survivors include her husband, Darin of Osceola; children, Shelby Rae Czarnick, Cierra Lynn Fisher, Garrett Curt Fisher and Creighton Laurence Sterup; two granddaughters, Analeis Hatch Czarnick and Emma Lou Czarnick; father, Johnny Ray Thornton of Bladen; two brothers, Todd (Loreece) Thornton of Long Pine, NE and Chad (Glenda) Thornton of Ellijay, GA; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, LoRee Thornton; and husband, Curt David Fisher.

Memorials are suggested to the family in lieu of flowers to be designated toward a future scholarship.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at the Osceola City Auditorium with Pastor Teri Lucas and Father Val Bartek officiating. Musical selections were “In The Garden,” “The Old Rugged Cross,” and “Jealous of the Angels.” Pianist was Kristi Schleif. Soloist was Keith Crowe. Pallbearers were Dustin Thornton, Matt Sterup, Zach Sterup, Kyle Sterup, Jordan Consbruck, Corey Trausch, Grant Marisch and Zach Crowe. Interment was held in the Osceola Cemetery.

Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg has been entrusted with arrangements.
