Mildred Lillian Blomquist was the second twin born November 1, 1936 to Emil C. and Orpha P. (Stufft) Blomquist at the Ainsworth Hospital in Ainsworth, NE. She lived on a ranch in central Brown County with twin sister Mary, older brother Charles and her parents.

She attended rural school district #61 (Hillsdale) until the 4th grade when the family moved to Ainsworth, NE. Mildred attended school in Ainsworth, graduating from high school with the class of 1954. After graduation she taught in rural schools in Rock and Brown Counties. She attended Chadron State College in the summers.

On May 26, 1957 Mildred was united in marriage to Neil Lavern Swim. To this union two children were born, Karen Kay and Ron Lavern. Mildred joined the Ainsworth United Methodist Church in 1948 at the age of 12. She later transferred her membership to the Atkinson United Methodist Church in 1998.

Mildred and Neil and their children lived on several different ranches in Brown and Holt Counties until Neil’s death in June 1994. Mildred later sold the land and moved into Atkinson, NE. She worked at the Atkinson Good Samaritan Center for a number of years. She enjoyed her work, volunteer work, and being with family and friends.

Mildred loved life. She was an avid Cornhusker fan and started listening to games with her brother Charles on the radio before it was on TV. She was an excellent seamstress and made her children many beautiful clothes. She loved to sing and play the clarinet. The highlight of her band years was marching at Memorial Stadium at a Husker game. She was a wonderful cook and loved to garden and she canned much of the garden produce. She loved her family and was very active in the Atkinson United Methodist Church later in life.

Mildred leaves to mourn a daughter, Karen (Loren) Ammon of Newport, NE; son, Ron (Doris) Swim of Westcliff, CO; sister-in-law, Phyllis Lewis of Atkinson, NE; four grandsons, one step-granddaughter, two great-grandsons, three great-granddaughters, and two step-great-granddaughters; and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Neil; her parents; four brothers; one sister; one daughter-in-law; one grandson; and one greatgrandson.
